What is Kundalini Scientifically?

What is Kundalini?

According to Yogic Science, Kundalini the Pranic Energy, Chi, and Consciousness, is a source of life force coiled at the bottom of the spine since our birth. It stays within us until we die and then gets back to its source - the supreme soul.

The word Kundalini means coiling, like a snake. In Hatha Yoga, Kundalini has been described as a coiled serpent at the base of the spine. The image of spring-like coiling conveys the sense of untapped potential energy. More expressively, Kundalini can be explained as a great reservoir of creative energy at the bottom/base of the spine.

In Scientific terms, the Kundalini Shakti is the inner potential energy that lies untapped in every human being. The outcome of Kundalini awakening is the union of Will, Knowledge, and Action.

While Kundalini is a well-known concept in Eastern Yogic Science, it is just beginning to gain scientific recognition in Western Medical Science. So, what does Kundalini mean scientifically? Let us explore.

Kundalini in Modern Science:

  • Concentrated Field of Energy: Some scientists believe that Kundalini is a concentrated field of intelligent, invisible, and cosmic energy that begins at the base of the spine and is absolutely vital to life.

  • Bio-Electrical Energy: Some highly-informed people consider Kundalini to be the bio-electrical energy of the physical body and the creative energy of the Universe. It’s just the energy of the body and not some external energy. It is always within you. When you get matured enough, it awakens. This energy typically operates by itself at a sub-conscious level. Some of this energy sustains life and makes organs in your body work. Where the energy awakens, it starts working full-force.

  • Intelligent Force of Nature: There is an energy-generating mechanism in our body that keeps the body alive and moving. The intelligence which runs this mechanism is called Kundalini. It is the elemental life force that keeps us going as long as we are alive. So, it is as if the Kundalini has an intelligence of its own, as it presses forward and continues to work until the task is completed.

  • System Cleanser: Some believe that pain results from blockages or pressures in the body and mind. As the Kundalini works through our system, it flushes out hidden blockages and presses on until they get cleared. This energy keeps working within you until it removes all the blockages in your system. The result is a total transformation of the body, mind, and soul, and you are born again, in the literal sense!

The Science Behind Kundalini

  • The Science behind Kundalini is simple. Our body constitutes four main elements - Oxygen, Carbon, Hydrogen, and Nitrogen, which amount to over 95% of the human body. Also, there are small amounts of Calcium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sulfur, and other elements. A soul lives in a body and gathers experiences. After 70-80 years of life, the soul discards the body and leaves for another life, taking with him all the experiences gathered in this life.

  • To maintain the body for so many years, one needs a lot of energy to sustain life. This energy comes partially through the food we eat, and more importantly, directly from the planet/Mother Earth. The channel to receive this type of life-sustaining energy is through our feet soles and upwards through the feet where they join in Chakra 1 – the root chakra and feed the reservoir of energy there.

  • This root-energy in Chakra 1 is called Kundalini - the life energy from Mother Earth that keeps all our bodies alive. This channel or the energy lifeline between the planet and human bodies has to work permanently. Otherwise, the body dies quickly.

  • In an ideal scenario, the Kundalini energy goes up the spine through all Chakras, increasing its vibration along the way without obstacles and feeding the body organs. After arriving in Chakra 7 (Crown Chakra), it unites with the higher cosmos energies that come from above.

  • The result means that Mother Earth’s energy goes up the spine and eventually merges with the sun and cosmic energy in Chakra 7. So, our body becomes a physical conduit for Earth’s energy that merges with the higher cosmic energies throughout our body.

  • For this merging to happen, one must become enlightened to keep his Chakras open and clean off any negative energies that clog the Chakras like fears, worries, anxiety, agitation, envy, etc. Only then one can be united with the Creator of the Universe.

  • But this does not happen in the ordinary human bodies where Chakras are clogged, and the Kundalini Shakti cannot go up. Only a truly spiritual person will work all his life to unclog his chakras and make his Kundalini find its way up.

  • In the ancient Hindu religious texts, Kundalini Shakti is the term used to denote Earth’s energy. As per these sacred texts, the Kundalini Shakti is destined to rise through the Sushumna channel until it unites with Lord Shiva in the 6th Chakra (representing the cosmic energy). This exact theory is what has been explained to you above in simple scientific terms.
